Ever since I experimented with indigo dye last year, I have been playing with different ways to dye fabric. Many of which call for a consistent simmer which means you have to do it over the stovetop. Definitely a BIG ask. SO BIG my boyfriend refuses to be present when this happens for fear of dye ending up everywhere. But fear not, as daunting as it sounds, follow these simple tips for fabric dying over the stovetop and it’s easy.
What are you all up to this weekend? We’ve got big plans to steal some wildflowers and we’ve got the perfect vases to put them in. Plus, a pretty nostalgic soundtrack to blast while we’re perfecting our flower arranging. See what we’re talking about in this week’s And Then We Tried obsessions!
As I mentioned in the house paint reveal post, I refinished my deck with Olympic Maximum Stain after the crew wrapped up painting and I’m here to share the process and the before and after! We made some safety improvements and some huge visual improvements and now the back deck is the perfect place to relax.

Anyone else feel like this week was just unnecessarily difficult? It was awfully rainy here in Cleveland this week, so let’s blame that. Time to kick off the weekend with our latest And Then We Tried obsessions! Keep Reading
Let me just start this off by saying that I am not, obviously, a medical or mental health professional, just someone who has experienced travel anxiety and learned to deal with it. Anxiety can be a very personal issue, but talking about it with others (or the entire Internet) and sharing experiences can be helpful for everyone.Keep Reading
Hope you all had a great, short week after the 4th! We are really leaning into summer this week and are obsessed with summery manicures, hats, and food. See everything we’re obsessed with in this week’s And Then We Tried obsessions.
Growing up, our moms were ALWAYS ready for a last-minute birthday party with a stash of small prepared gifts “just in case.” Did anyone else’s mom always seem to have Bath and Body Works gift sets, Lisa Frank notebooks, or friendship bracelet kits at the ready? We always think of those standby gifts when we’re scrambling to put together a last-minute housewarming or birthday present (which has happened one too many times lately), so we’re taking a page out of Mom’s playbook and trying to be a little more prepared.
In partnership with our friends at Poppy & Quail (a mother-daughter duo themselves), we’ve put together a few grown-up gift kits so we can always be ready, look like we have our acts together, and impress a few moms along the way.
So, my house painting is done! (I think, tbh they never told me if they were done…) As you saw in the reveal post, I love love love the new color and am having a great time restyling my porch and deck to play off the dark teal siding. I did NOT love the process of getting the house painted. Instead of dwelling on all the weird/bad/annoying things that happened, I thought I’d pull together a list of questions to ask before hiring house painters, to help you all avoid some of my frustration.
